Owning the right magnifying makeup mirror can make all the difference between walking out your front door every morning looking like a million bucks, or walking out your front door looking like something the cat dragged to work. Everyone is different, and everyone has different preferences when it comes to magnification. Some women like to be able to actually see their pores, while others are happy just to have a slight magnification.
Whatever your personal preferences may be, you’ll find everything you need to know to get the best mirror to fit your needs at the absolute best price. I’ll talk about different brands, and I’ll talk about different price ranges, and I’ll tell you how to find the best deals so that you don’t end up paying an arm and a leg.
First off, what magnifications are out there? when it comes to magnification you have many options, but not as many as you may think. Your standard makeup mirror will always come with two types of magnification. The mirror will usually swivel and one side will be dedicated to one magnification and the other side will be dedicated to the other as I’m sure you already know! Usually on a standard mirror you will find 1X and 5X mag. 1X means simply one times magnification while 5X means… you guessed it…five times magnification. This is usually fairly standard and if your mirror doesn’t say otherwise you can guess that it’s probably at this level.
But what about something a little stronger? Personally I don’t care for the stronger mirrors out there but I know many women who do, in fact I know many women who swear by them! So what options are there? Generally speaking you will find 1X and 7X mirrors as well as 1X and 8X mirrors and you usually won’t find anything greater than 1X and 10X mirrors. The 10X mirrors are very different in that you have to really get used to the extra magnification. In fact for some reason, and I’m not really sure why, many travel makeup mirrors come as 10X mirrors.
The only way you’re going to know which kind of magnification is right for you is to try them all out. Hopefully you can get away with doing this in the store without buying several different mirrors but the fact of the matter is, we never really know till we get them home and into our own bathrooms surrounded by the exact lighting that we will use every day.
Some women I know will go out and buy several different mirrors with several different magnifications and bring them home and test them out for a week or so. Really if you think about it, it’s the only way to know for sure which mirror is right for you. Just be sure to keep your receipts and return the mirrors as soon as possible when you’ve decided which one to keep. It seems a bit extreme I know, but there’s something strange about doing makeup in your own bathroom that’s hard to replicate elsewhere. It has something to do with the kind of light that you will expect to use day in and day out that really makes a difference.
What Brands Are Out there? when it comes to brands you have several options. I mainly focus on three major brands because I find that you can find exactly what you’re looking for at any price range somewhere within these brands. I like to focus on just Conair, Jerdon, and Revlon. Now Conair mirrors are fantastically good mirrors at the lower price range. You can expect to pay anywhere from $25 up to $75 with nearly unlimited options within that price range depending on exactly what you want in your magnification levels.
Jerdon, on the other hand, tends to focus on more expensive higher-end models and you can expect to pay anywhere from $50 up to $200 for one of these mirrors. Again you’ll find nearly as many different options to choose from as the Conair line at different price points so you can really get what you need at whatever budget you have.
Revlon focuses on makeup and for some reason decided to sell a line of mirrors as well. I suppose they thought there was synergy between the two or something. The fact of the matter is, these are very poor mirrors most of the time in my honest opinion and you want to stay away from them if possible. The only reason I mention them at all is to warn you against them.
Finding the absolute perfect magnifying makeup mirror for you is an important part of everyone’s life and I hope you’ll put in just a little extra effort to find the best one for you because day in and day out there are few things in life that you’ll use more than this mirror so you want to be sure to get a good one.
